Charities, not-for-profit businesses, civil society organisations, social enterprises. Call them what you like but they are a force for good. All are dedicated to the cause they support. All seek to do what they do better by being more effective, cost-efficient and accountable.
The underlying principle of my business is to help these organisations be better at what they do. This after all is what internal audit should be about.
Having worked in the not-for-profit sector for over ten years I understand the culture and share the values of the sector. The approach to my assignments reflects this and helps in relating to the staff involved.
Whatever the assignment, be it undertaking a gift aid review in the UK office or assessing the control environment in a partner organisation in Cambodia, the critical success factor is to gain the confidence of the individuals concerned. Once this is achieved, a greater understanding and acceptance of change is more likely to follow.
| As a member of both the ICAEW and Institute of Internal Auditors I am bound by the professional and ethical standards of both these bodies. This gives my clients the confidence as to the quality of the work and service they receive. |
